Have you ever experienced a season of apathy in your faith? You know the right answers, go through the motions, but your mind is indifferent and your heart lacks emotion for God? This was me about a year ago. The summer of 2025 was filled with good things in my life. Unfortunately, an awe and wonder for God was not one of them. I decided to sit in the chair designated in my house as my reading and prayer spot. I prayed for a week. When I sat down, I opened my Bible and skimmed the themes of several books. When I came across the theme of the book of Hebrews, a familiar book to me, I paused and felt myself lean in. The theme of Hebrews is centered around Jesus, the Son of God. I wondered if maybe my recent indifference and lack of emotion was due to forgetting Jesus, the Savior, the King, and the living God. What could bring back my awe and wonder for Jesus? I wanted to get back to that place. I was on a search for a glimpse of the glorious splendor of his majesty referenced throughout the Old Testament. However, I realized distractions got in the way for me to see Jesus, to really see him for who he is, and my gut told me reading Hebrews would be the answer I had prayed for.

The truth in the book of Hebrews continues to amaze me after the deep dive I started July 2025. There are two connected themes I found in Hebrews. The first is that Jesus is better than angels, powers, authority, and the Mosaic Law (4:14, 6:18, 10:23). The Holy Spirit opened my eyes to see the depths of how Jesus is better. A simple truth, but extremely profound. It continues to shape my thoughts and actions, even though I confess that some days I fall short. The second theme in Hebrews is the encouragement to “hold fast” to Jesus because he is better (1:4, 6:9, 8:6, 10:34, 11:16, 11:35, 11:40, 12:24). Jesus is the Son of God, the great high priest, and the one that brings a new covenant. The old covenant was limited. The new covenant is limitless with the power to purify our conscience. This bold claim requires a response from you and me. We can either hold fast to Jesus without wavering or toss Jesus aside with the belief that we can do better.

Over the next several weeks, I’d like to share some of those glimpses of the glorious splendor of his majesty in the book of Hebrews with the hope that the Holy Spirit works a revelation in your heart too, to see Jesus is better.
